The women are upset by changes that will give doctotrs the right to veto home births with a midwife in attendance.
Protest spokeswoman, Jenny Gamble, president of the Australian College of Midwives, said the government should be “designing policy that meets the needs of the community”.
“They have to include homebirths,” she said.
“Homebirthing is a valid option, and the governemnt has to provide … professional indemnity insurance for home births and not force midwives into a one-sided collaborative relationship (with a doctor).”
